Mart Klien Research

Mart Klien’s style has a very simple style similar to graphic novels because of the deep shadows and shading as well as the use of a simplistic colour palette. From the way the images have been presented I believe that the artist has constructed the imagery using multiple images like the television and possibly a point of view photo looking at the cards.

This image has been created for a 5 page book using a the graphic novel style, deep shading as well as a colour palette that doesn’t use that many colours such as the police officers being only one colour with a darker shade for shading and depth. The background has been designed to bring the viewers eye towards the center of the imagery which is a technique that I will most probably use on one of the two poster designs.

From this image you can see that to represent lighting reflecting off surfaces the artist has used a pale blue colour on the skin which I have seen on other graphic novels and prints. This is another example of the two images combined to produce the final image.

Above are two good examples of deep shading to give images texture and depth.

Here is another compilation image using multiple different images from science fiction films to create an interesting collage; which is another way that the unusual words posters can be presented, however that could be difficult because the word that the person has chosen will be difficult to find images for because they have to be relevant.
