I have been researching the Greek Alphabet because I would like to incorporate it into the names or onto the helmets to add another piece of imagery or interesting typography into the designs that can be another instant identifier that the creatures are from Greek mythology.
The Greek alphabet is the script that has been used to write the Greek language since the 8th century BC. It was derived from the earlier Phoenician alphabet, and was in turn the ancestor of numerous other European and Middle Eastern scripts, including Cyrillic and Latin. Apart from its use in writing the Greek language, both in its ancient and its modern forms, the Greek alphabet today also serves as a source of technical symbols and labels in many domains of mathematics, science and other fields.
I had two different idea, which was to introduce the letters such as Delta, Phi, Lambda, Theta and Gamma to replace lettering in the team names to replace the O, A or N with Greek lettering to add some character to the names, however I will have to find a typeface which will be a serif font so that it is similar to the image above, which is how the Greek alphabet was written, however I will not be using Greek cursive as this is hand written text that is difficult to read (see below).
Another idea was to integrate the greek lettering into the team names but only the mythical creature words so that there is a semiotic link when the audience read the team name and see the the greek lettering they will link it with ancient Greece.
